Downloading information from the web is one of the primary benefits of being on the web. It is not a scary process, but one people can have problems with. If you are downloading a program that you want to keep and possibly put on another computer, you don't want to have to download it more than once. Make a directory for downloads or use the one from your browser. AOL will have one within its directory. (right click on START BUTTON and then click on Explore) this will show you what folders you have on your computer and what files are in each folder. The point of this is to know what file you are going to download this file to! Write the name of the directory down that you will normally download to. Each time you download a file, write the name of the file down and a descriptive name of what it is. Usually you will not be able to tell what the program is by the name the vendor gives for downloading. Later on you may look at this file and be able to crossreference it if you have written down this information. This way, at the worst, you can do a file search and find it.
We will use Real Player as a Download example. Read and/or print out the
instructions.
Then download when ready. Besides, you will need this program if you don't already have
it.
